Ghost Story- Part Two

So for those of you waiting on tenterhooks for the sequel (well one of you anyway) here it is.

A couple of days after the phone call (see part 1) it was New Year's Eve. In typical fashion we did nothing much to celebrate though Mark had two drinks and proclaimed himself drunk about 10pm. Hard drinker that one.

The kids had both already fallen asleep in the lounge room so Mark decided to pull the spare mattress out and sleep on the floor. I had to wake him up for midnight and then we both tried to settle down to go to sleep. We turned out the lights and lay down. It was quiet. And then I could hear something. I waited and it didn't go away so I prodded Mark and said 'what's that noise.' He replied 'karaoke' (I told you he had two drinks).

After convincing him it wasn't karaoke?! I made Mark go outside- nope, wasn't coming from there. Then we realised the sound was coming from the playroom.

In the playroom is Tiny Girl's Dora kitchen that my MIL found on the side of the road. It has batteries and when you press a button it speaks to you in English and Spanish, it also sings and plays music. And there it was, midnight, New Year's Eve, playing away. The strangest part is that it won't play unless you touch it. And then it only plays for 10 seconds and you have to press it again.

I don't know if it was the mix of it being New Year's Eve and midnight plus this silly toy speaking in Spanish on its own, but it FREAKED US OUT.

It also hasn't done it since.......

Perhaps someone here wanted to say Happy New Year to us all? So from our ghost to you- Happy New Year bloggers.

New Year Ghostly Tale- Part 1

I've somehow managed to lose the computer cord for my new camera so there is going to be a temporary lull in holiday posts. I do however have another ghostly tale for you which I hope you enjoy. For new players you can find other ghost stories here.

Picture is for dramatic effect and has nothing whatsoever to do with this story. Thanks to Google for 'lending' it to me.

So all our previous ghostly experiences have been confined to upstairs, which makes sense as it is the older part of the house. The downstairs is c2009, so you wouldn't expect anything to happen down there unless the ghost of a dead cockroach or hermit crab decided to come back to life.

A few days prior to New Years Eve I was in the kitchen which is downstairs. Mark's mobile was in the kitchen and the house phone was on the lounge. Mark's phone rang and I ignored it (it's normally someone I have no interest in talking to, I'm evil like that). However he started yelling from somewhere in the house 'answer my phone.' So I went to answer it and saw that the call was coming from our house phone?! It then went to message bank which left me scratching my head trying to figure out how that could have happened. Mark appeared asking who was it and then the message bank beeped. We freaked out a little and then listened to the message. All that was on the other end was static, sometimes loud and sometimes soft. There also seemed to be a pattern to the static, like a talking pattern if that makes any sense. It sounded a little like someone was driving and had a window open. Except that was impossible..........

We were pretty creeped out by that and I think Mark still has the message saved in his phone. There hasn't been an explanation, unless you count all three of us pointing the finger at each other and then realising it couldn't possibly have been ANY of us.

We have found that when the house is 'active' it will produce interesting ghostly stuff for a short period of time before returning to normal. So we weren't really expecting anything else to happen, but when it did we didn't find it unusual either.

I'll be back tomorrow with what happened next!

Saturday ghost story

I'm back to share my latest ghostly tale with you after a busy day celebrating Tiny Girl's 2nd birthday. Hope I didn't keep you waiting ;-)

We've had a few very odd experiences in the house, some of which we just have no explanation for. I will probably share them at a later date but Thursday night's experience tops the lot for eeriness. Around mid-night Thursday Tiny Girl woke up and after a few unsettled minutes started screaming. She was yelling in a way that I haven't heard before and it certainly wasn't a typical pain cry (and mums out there will know that you just KNOW when it's a pain cry.) She yelled so much that I turned the light on but the yelling continued. It continued in our room, in the upstairs lounge, in the downstairs lounge and back upstairs into the study area. She was inconsolable and was grabbing me so tight and wailing for her dad. Eventually he got up and tried to comfort her and once again she gripped on for dear life.

(I'll stop the tale there to let you know that Tiny Girl hates men. Especially any man bold enough to enter our house. She saves the best of the terror for my brother-in-law, which I'm sure makes him feel rotten every time he comes over.)

So back to the story. Picture this- me sitting on the study chair, The Gas Man holding the screaming toddler, most of the lights are out and Tiny Girl starts pointing behind her dad over to a bookcase. Then clear as day she wails 'man!' 'man!' -- Cue silent parental melt down.--

So who's our mystery man? Well we like to call him George. Here's his picture. I'll tell you his story another day.

Things that go bump in the night

One of the questions we are often asked is whether or not our house is haunted. I guess the theory is that the older the house the more chance there is of people having died there and of course everyone knows that if someone died in their home then they must still be there in all their ghostly glory.

When we first moved in the house was very spooky. Mainly because it was covered in trees. Branches used to scrape the roof, making horrible mournful (AKA ghostly) noises. I would say that for at least the first year we lived here the house creeped me out. It doesn't bother me anymore though, mainly because it is so light and airy these days.

So although the house itself was creepy the ghosts normally are not. Ghosts?! Yes ghosts. Or something odd, like old energy. They are here with us and normally it's a non-issue. Until last night. Want to hear the story? I'll keep you in suspense and tell you tomorrow. (Insert wicked ghostly laugh here.)
