Once we were parked to her liking we then set off to explore the area. Port Douglas was recommended to us by everyone we met, but in truth we didn't think much of it. It IS a very beautiful place but the entire area is dominated by very ritzy hotels. I think it would be fabulous for a 5 start getaway but there wasn't so much to entertain a young family in a motorhome.
We walked along the beach but made sure we didn't dip out toes in the water for fear of deadly Irukanji. Thankfully we spotted a lookout so we walked to the top to survey the beach from above.
Here's Big Boy with a mini lighthouse. I did read the sign but I can't remember why it is there or the story behind it.
The view from the top was spectacular and you can see why people rave about this part of Qld. I did some research and found out that many films have been made in and around this area, including Nim's Island, The Thin Red Line and Australian mini-series The Pacific.
View from the lookout at Port Douglas.
We managed to get a photo of all of us together. Thank you to the tourists who took these for us.
Looking for pieces of my camera- to no avail.
Of course just after getting a brilliant photo I then managed to drop my camera on these rocks. It smashed to pieces and despite our best efforts we couldn't find all of them to put it back together. Thankfully it still worked enough to take a few more pictures before we could replace it with a shiny new one. RIP old camera.
By the time we climbed down from the lookout it was dark so we headed off to the local surf club for dinner.
The food was brilliant but we took away something from that restaurant that landed one of us in hospital (and it wasn't food poisoning!) All will be revealed in subsequent posts.
Glorious meal at the Port Douglas Surf Club

Looks beautiful! Too bad about your camera, are you happy with your new one?
Very happy actually, it was a blessing in disguise.
